Why We Got Started
When Connor was a freshmen at Moorestown High School, his father, Larry Ames, advocated not only for his son’s hearing needs, but also for the 29 other deaf and hard-of-hearing students in the district. Larry met with Moorestown’s Board of Education and persuaded them to spend a portion of the district’s budget on state-of-the-art hearing aids, FM systems, and other assistive listening technology, making it possible for these students to connect with their teachers and fellow classmates in a way they never could before.
The NJ Hearing Foundation was created in Larry’s honor and strives to maintain the legacy he left behind. His dedication to advocacy and accessibility for children with hearing loss changed the lives of numerous families and continues to be the inspiration for the Foundation.
In Larry’s memory, the New Jersey Hearing Foundation provides social, emotional, and financial support to families of children with hearing loss and affords families the opportunity to meet and connect with other families in similar situation.
